Five leading figures in business and education have joined the new-term Hong Kong Chief Executive’s Policy Unit Expert Group, according to a roster published on Tuesday.
The new faces are economist Ba Shusong, entrepreneur Bonnie Chan Woo, professional investor Jonathan Zhu Jia, educator and lawmaker Tang Fei, and public policy specialist Naubahar Sharif. They are teaming up with 54 other experts who the government announced have been reappointed to the advisory group for a one-year tenure starting May 30.

The CEPU Expert Group was established in May 2023 to provide professional perspectives to Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and his Policy Unit on various topics. Members of the group have backgrounds in business, finance, think-tanks, academia and other areas. They are split into three subgroups focusing on economic advancement, social development and research strategy.

Head of the group Stephen Wong Yuen-shan expressed his gratitude to those reappointed and welcomed the new members on board.
“I look forward to the members of the expert group working together in the coming year to contribute to the long-term development of Hong Kong,” he said.

Chan said he will commit himself to garnering constructive opinions from the community, developing policies that meet public expectations, and leveraging Hong Kong’s advantages to bolster economic development and social progress.
