The People's Liberation Army continued on Friday its Joint Sword 2024A exercises around China's Taiwan island, a spokesperson said on Friday morning.

Li Xi, spokesperson for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, said in a statement that the exercises involved integrated actions both inside and outside the island chain, aiming to test the combined capabilities in seizing control, joint strikes, and area dominance.

The China Coast Guard said a coast guard fleet conducted law-enforcement drills in the waters east of Taiwan Island.

Spokesperson Gan Yu said the drills focused on subjects including verification and identification as well as warning and expulsion to test the capabilities of joint maritime patrol and emergency response.
