SHENZHEN - Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has
been sacked as Shenzhen Kaisa manager following the Chinese second division
league club's disappointing eight-game drought.
Shenzhen Kaisa has not made
any announcement on Eriksson's departure, but the club already named domestic
coach Wang Baoshan as its new coach on Wednesday morning.
"The club decided
to sack Eriksson last night, after a meeting of the club executives," a source
close to the club told Xinhua.
The 69-year old Swede, who replaced former
Dutch international Clarence Seedorf last December, started the new season with
a five straight win to lead the league. But his team were immune to victory in
the previous eight games, dropping from top to fourth place in the
table.
Deep-pocketed Shenzhen Kaisa were aiming to book a place in next
year's Super league. The second division club spent more than 40 million U.S.
dollars in the winter to bring Colombia international Harold Preciado, Nigerian
striker Chinedu Obasi and some domestic talents on board, hoping to follow
Guangzhou Evergrande and Tianjin Quanjian's successes.
Eriksson coached
England from 2001-2006 and went on to lead Manchester City and Leicester City.
He guided Chinese Super league sides Guangzhou R&F and Shanghai SIPG, and in
the past three seasons, he managed to lead the two teams into the AFC Champions
league.
