Guangdong to establish national hub for the AI industry by 2025

Guangdong province, an economic powerhouse in China, aims to develop itself into a national innovation-driven area for the general artificial intelligence industry by 2025, according to an implementation plan for accelerating the development of the AI industry.

The plan, issued on the Guangdong provincial government's website on Monday, indicated that the province's general AI technology innovation system will be relatively complete, and high-level application scenarios of AI technology will be further expanded by 2025.

Guangdong will establish a national hub for intelligent computing power, a special zone in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and a national demonstration center for AI scenario application

Specifically, the number of AI enterprises in Guangdong will exceed 2,000 by 2025, with the core AI industry's value surpassing 300 billion yuan ($41 billion), according to the plan.

Guangdong will establish a national hub for intelligent computing power, a special zone in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and a national demonstration center for AI scenario application. These initiatives will help form a favorable development pattern of interconnected computing power, open-source algorithms, integrated data, and wider applications of AI technology.

The implementation of these AI development measures aims to help Guangdong to achieve the largest scale of intelligent computing power in the country and lead the global AI industry by 2025, the plan added.
