HONG KONG – Nearly 3,000 participants joined the annual New World Harbour Race in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour on Sunday morning.
The participants swam from the Golden Bauhinia Square Public Pier in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island to the Avenue of the Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The event had quota of 4,000 for entrants but, after a typhoon led to the cancelation of mandatory trials for some participants, only around 2,800 were able to join Sunday’s race, local medai reported.
Celebrating the theme: “Empower Happy Waves for All”, the organizers also debuting the first-ever harbourside playpark near the finish line.

The annual sports extravaganza was sponsored by New World Development Company Ltd and organized by Hong Kong China Swimming Association.
