HONG KONG – Hong Kong athletes won a gold and a bronze medals on Saturday, marking the last day of competition at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
The two medals took the tally of total medals won by the Hong Kong, China delegation to 47, including eight golds, 15 silvers, and 24 bronzes.
On the last day, Hong Kong’s Ng Mui-wui and Wong Ting-ting won a gold medal in Table Tennis Women's Doubles event beating Japan’s Furukawa Kanami and Ito Maki 3-2.

In the women's wheelchair fencing sabre team event, Lam Ka-man, Tong Nga-ting, and Yu Chui-yee of Hong Kong defeated Cho Eunhye, Kwon Hyokyeong, and Baek Gyeonghye of South Korea 45-29 to take the bronze medal.

On the medal table, the Hong Kong, China team ranks ninth overall, with China topping the list with 521 medals, followed by Japan and Iran with 150 and 131 medals respectively.
Congratulating the Hong Kong athletes on achieving outstanding results in the 4th Asian Para Games, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu commended their “distinguished performance and noble sportsmanship”.

Pointing out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has all along been supporting the participation of persons with disabilities in sports to demonstrate their talents, the CE said athletes of the Hong Kong team demonstrated their perseverance in the Asian Para Games Hangzhou, as in the past.
“They have earned the admiration of all Hong Kong people and made us proud.”
Referring to a significant increase in government resources for persons with disabilities in sports development in recent years, Lee said for this financial year alone, a budget of over HK$130 million has been earmarked, representing an 80 percent increase as compared to five years ago.

“The government, in collaboration with the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee, has launched a five-year pilot program on career and education for athletes with disabilities in June this year to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills so as to facilitate their integration into society and post-athletic transformation for their second-career development in the future,” he added.
