Wuhan Three Towns claims first ever AFC Champions League win

WUHAN, China - Wuhan Three Towns claimed its first ever AFC Champions League victory here on Tuesday as the Chinese Super League champion beat Hanoi FC from Vietnam 2-1 in the third round of Group J.

Just four minutes into the match, Hanoi's Joel Tagueu was sent off due to a violent foul on Wuhan's Gao Zhunyi.

In the 45th minute, Wuhan's Wei Shihao broke the deadlock after three consecutive shots in the penalty box.

Marcao put the home side 2-0 ahead with a header following a precise cross from Deng Hanwen in the 63rd minute.

Pham Tuan Hai pulled one back for Hanoi in the 86th minute, but the Vietnamese team could hardly threaten in the last minutes after Van Nam Dao got his second yellow card of the match.

After the historic win, Wuhan now has four points from three matches to sit third in the group, behind South Korea's Pohang Steelers and Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan.

In other action, the Pohang Steelers beat the Urawa Red Diamonds 2-0 on Tuesday.
