TEHRAN - One person was killed and four others were injured on Sunday in a blast at a power plant near the Iranian capital Tehran, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The explosion occurred at a pipeline transferring gas to turbines at the Parand power plant in Robat Karim County, about 50 kilometers southwest of Tehran, due to the "staffers' negligence," county governor Omid Ahmadi was quoted as saying.

He said the injured people had been transferred to the hospital and were receiving medical attention, noting that the operation of the power plant was not interrupted despite the blast damaged a small part of the gas pipeline.
