China: Taking trade measures against Japan is 'legitimate'

China has taken urgent trade measures in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations as well as relevant provisions of the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding Japan's discharging of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea. This is completely legitimate, reasonable and necessary, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

Japan should immediately correct its actions and effectively respond to the concerns of the international community, the Ministry of Commerce said

He Yadong, a spokesman for the ministry, said during a press conference in Beijing that China has repeatedly raised serious concerns and doubts at relevant meetings of the WTO and trade policy deliberations with Japan.

China has repeatedly expressed a serious stance on Japan's discharging of nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean, and the Japanese government still persists and unilaterally initiated the discharge, he added.
