HONG KONG - A week after Super Typhoon Saola tore through within 30 km of Hong Kong, the city recorded hourly rainfall of 158.1 mm between 11 pm and midnight Thursday – the highest since 1884 when recordkeeping started.

A Black Rainstorm Warning was issued at 11:05 pm on Thursday following torrential rain brought on by a "trough of low pressure associated with (the) remnant of Typhoon Haikui".

Knee-deep water was reported along major thoroughfares and police rescued people trapped in stranded vehicles. Severe flooding in both urban and remote areas also caused landslides.
