Chinese foreign minister meets Pakistani military official

BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Pakistan Army Sahir Shamshad Mirza in Beijing on Tuesday.

Qin said the Pakistani army is a staunch defender and promoter of China-Pakistan friendship. He expressed the hope that the Pakistani military will continue to play its role as the anchor of stability by safeguarding domestic stability and contributing to the building of a China-Pakistan community of shared future.

He also thanked the Pakistani army for its long-term efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan.

Sahir Shamshad Mirza said the Pakistani military will continue to make every effort to ensure bilateral cooperation including the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and safeguard the Belt and Road cooperation.

Also on Tuesday, Zhang Youxia, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with Sahir Shamshad Mirza in Beijing.

Zhang said the Chinese side is willing to work with the Pakistani side in implementing the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhancing pragmatic cooperation, and jointly addressing global challenges.

He expressed the hope that the two militaries will continue to support each other strategically, jointly work for deeper and more substantive defense and security cooperation, and jointly safeguard global and regional peace and stability.

Sahir Shamshad Mirza said the Pakistani side will firmly support China's principles and stances on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region no matter how global and regional situations change.

The Pakistani military is willing to deepen its cooperation with the Chinese military to safeguard common interests and promote common development, he said.
