Internet audio and video content in China generated a market of more than 800 billion yuan ($115.03 billion) last year, according to data released at the first Shanghai Internet Audio and Video Content Creators Conference last week.
Held from May 11 to 13, the conference was attended by celebrated streaming platform uploaders from all over China.
Themed "Creation Achieves Dreams", the conference was jointly held by the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism, the Shanghai Administration of Radio and Television and Hongkou district's government, aiming to nurture more popular homegrown cultural content and IP franchises.
According to last year's White Paper on the Internet Audio and Video Content Creators released at the conference, the number of internet audio and video content creators in China experienced explosive growth in the past few years and has now gradually settled.
Meanwhile, the number of users of internet audio and video in the country reached 1.04 billion as of December.

Leading platforms, such as Bilibili, Douyin and Xiaohongshu, had a total number of 9 million content creators in 2021 and so far, their total number has exceeded 13 million, still with potential for further growth.
The white paper says nearly 60 percent of the country's internet audio and video content creators are between 25 and 34.About 46 percent of such creators are doing it as a part-time job, and 37 percent make a living with it.
"To record and share life"; "It's a personal hobby"; "for the extra income" and "to share my ideas and knowledge" were among the most popular motivations for these creators.
The white paper also notes that internet content providers are becoming younger and more diversified and professional. They have achieved fame online, but, at the same time, they are faced with problems, such as the exhaustion of creative ideas, anxiety for the flow of page views, as well as homogenization of content.
The conference organizers released a proposal of directions for these creators, encouraging them to promote Chinese culture, present the beauty in everyday life, facilitate cultural communications, spread messages of solidarity and continue generating more outstanding contents.
