The COVID-19 pandemic is nearing its end based on data published by the World Health Organization, said Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The threat of COVID-19 to humans is no longer on a serious level, he said at an event organized by the Beijing News on Friday.

From the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that the best way to detect possible major public health incidents is through hospital communication, he said.

The information sharing among hospitals and disease control authorities is very important, which has been made possible with the establishment of the national data bureau, Wu said.
