Premier Li Qiang at Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023 not only reassures China’s further opening up and high quality development, but also injects hope for continued regional stability and connectivity, according to forum participants.

In a keynote speech on March 30, Li said in uncertain events, China's certainty is a mainstay that safeguards world peace and development.

China’s development has been a crucial driving force for the globalization of trade and investment as the country has been extensively integrating into the global supply chains

Alessandro Golombiewski Teixeira, former economic advisor to President of Brazil and former Minister of Tourism, said Premier Li was direct to the point, with the right tone.

“I think that economic integration mentioned by him is a must for China as there is the need to create one integrate market,” said the deputy minister of development, industry and Foreign Trade, Brazil. Moreover, building high quality Belt and Road Initiative projects, can lead to sustainable development.

The premier stressed that China will adhere to reform and opening up and innovation-driven development, no matter how the world will change.

Ricky Wong, vice president of KPMG China, noted China’s accelerated efforts in pushing opening-up can greatly contribute to the world’s economic growth, as its rising domestic demand will promote global trade by increasing imports of energy and commodities.

China’s development has been a crucial driving force for the globalization of trade and investment as the country has been extensively integrating into the global supply chains.

“At the same time, China is speeding up its green transformation and taking concrete actions to promote global energy conservation. There is an increasing demand for replacing energy-saving and environmental protection equipment across the country, which is likely to become a new growth point of import trade,” Wong added.

Zafar Uddin Mahmood, policy advisor to secretary general of Boao Forum Asia and special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan, said the premier’s address is reassuring about continuation of China’s openness, reforms and contribution to bring stability in global economy through engagement and dialogue.

China is using multi platforms to enhance understanding between the countries and the region to promote free trade. China believes in solidarity, cooperation, and dialogue instead of friction, so China will work hard to create more harmony and bring more cooperation on the table, Mahmood said.

He noted, Premier Li stated clearly that China will not engage itself in confrontation and will continue working through Belt and Road initiative, Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilisation initiatives to achieve the goal of prosperity for all.

Atul Dalakoti, Executive Director of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said the calling for inclusiveness and common prosperity for all gives the confidence that economic development is on the right path.

“We will see continuity of economic policy of further opening up of the Chinese policy,” he said, noting the importance of multilateralism and dialogue to solve all issues faced by the world and free trade is the backbone of regional economic integration.

“Chinese government and business leaders have the power to accelerate the green energy transition,” said Mark Hutchinson, CEO of the Fortescue Future Industries, the green energy unit of Australia’s iron ore giant Fortescue Metals Group.

With the strong and decisive leadership, China has the capital, massive technology and industrial base to make the transition to renewable energy, he said.

“The world must come together with China to see this through,” said Hutchinson, noting China can lead the world’s green energy transition more than any other country.

Despite impact from the pandemic, the Chinese industries have not slowed down and even raced further ahead, especially in areas like technology, automation and manufacturing, said Hutchinson, who visited several industrial areas of China recently.
