France shine in Day 1 of Judo World Masters competition

JERUSALEM - France won four medals on the first day of the 2022 Judo World Masters competition in Jerusalem.

European champion Shirine Boukli of France won the women's -48kg category, after defeating Asian champion Wakana Koga of Japan in the final.

Olympic silver medalist Sarah-Leonie Cysique got a silver medal for France, after losing to Canada's Christa Deguchi in the women's -57kg final.

Two other Frenchmen, Daikii Bouba and Walide Khyar took the silver and the bronze respectively in the -66kg category where Israel's Baruch Shmailov won the gold for the host country.

South Korea's Lee Ha-rim clinched the men's -60kg gold, thanks to a win over Asian champion Ryuju Nagayama of Japan in the final, while Kosovo's Olympic champion Distria Krasniqi beat Britain's Olympic bronze medalist Chelsie Giles in the women's -52kg final.

The annual masters competition, organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), will continue on Wednesday and Thursday.
