MADRID – Real Madrid have confirmed a muscle injury to midfielder Dani Ceballos that will keep him out of action for around a month.

The former Betis player has torn his hamstring and is unlikely to recover before La Liga comes to a halt on Nov 9th ahead of the World Cup finals.

The news is a blow to the player, who had forced his way into the plans of Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian rotating his side's midfield to try and cope with the busy fixture calendar this season.

Ceballos has appeared in all seven of his side's La Liga matches, with two starts and five substitute appearances, and played in one of their Champions League matches and was an outsider to force his way into Spain's World Cup squad.

Those options to go to the World Cup now seem to have disappeared as he will now be unavailable for big matches, such as La Liga games against FC Barcelona and Sevilla and next week's Champions League return game against Shakhtar Donetsk in which Real Madrid can assure their place in the knockout round of the tournament.

Ceballos is the latest of a line of players who have suffered muscle injuries due to the busy fixture schedule, with Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente, Barca's Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie, Betis' Nabil Fekir (who suffered an injury in Thursday's 2-1 win away to Roma) and Villarreal's Gerard Moreno, all key players who are currently suffering problems of various kinds.
