BUENOS AIRES - Defender Gil converted the decisive spotkick as Corinthians advanced to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals on Tuesday with a 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Boca Juniors.

Raul Gustavo and Bruno Ferreira both missed their shootout attempts for the Brazilian side but their blushes were saved by failed attempts from Boca trio Sebastian Villa, Dario Benedetto and Juan Ramirez.

In a successful night for Brazilian clubs, Atletico Mineiro and Athletico Paranaense also advanced to the last eight of South America's premier club competition.
The former overcame Emelec 1-0 at home to secure a 2-1 aggregate win while Paranaense drew 1-1 at Libertad to prevail 3-2 overall.
