HONG KONG - Activities for National Security Education Day included a five-minute special program discussing national security on the National Security Education Day website, while Radio Television Hong Kong will also air a short film about national cybersecurity, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said.
Carrie Lam said she will carry out her duties of promoting national security for the rest of her government’s term, which will end on June 30, and added that she hopes the next HK administration will further the work on national security education
National Security Education Day events were being conducted through online platforms because of the ongoing pandemic, Lam said at a news conference on Friday.
The events, themed “Uphold National Security, Safeguard Our Home”, aims to “raise Hong Kong residents’ awareness of national security, create a positive atmosphere of national security and enhance the capacity to fend off national security risks”, the government website said.
Lam said she will carry out her duties of promoting national security for the rest of her government’s term, which will end on June 30, and added that she hopes the next Hong Kong administration will further the work on national security education.

“I promise to continue to raise Hong Kong residents’ awareness of national security and abiding by the law. … Civil servants should shoulder the primary responsibilities of safeguarding national security and the Basic Law,” she said.
During Lam’s term, Hong Kong reformed its electoral system by increasing the role of the city’s Election Committee as part of the overall system design; ensuring political security; and implementing the policy of “patriots administrating Hong Kong”. The Legislative Council also passed a bill on the oath-taking requirement for civil servants to pledge allegiance to the city and swear to uphold the Basic Law in accordance with the National Security Law for Hong Kong.

Friday marked the second anniversary of National Security Education Day in the city since the National Security Law for Hong Kong was promulgated in 2020. The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, established April 15 each year as National Security Education Day on July 1, 2015.
A picture book on national outer space security in several languages, including Chinese and English, will be distributed to children, and the electronic form of the book is also available online, the government website said.
