Chan welcomes National Health Commission experts

HONG KONG - Hong Kong Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee on Tuesday welcomed mainland health official Liang Wannian, who is leading a delegation of mainland experts to Hong Kong to offer guidance in the city's fight against the epidemic.

Chan, along with Hong Kong health officials, held a meeting with the delegation led by Liang, who is the head of the National Health Commission's COVID-19 leading task force.

They exchanged views on the epidemic situation in Hong Kong and discussed the challenges posed by the fifth wave of the epidemic. Mainland experience in tackling the epidemic was also discussed.

In the afternoon, mainland experts met with Hong Kong health officials to learn about the conditions of COVID-19 patients in local hospitals and the treatment approach in the city.

Those who attended the meeting included Chan, Liang, Chairman of the Hospital Authority Henry Fan Hung-ling, and members of the Hong Kong government's anti-epidemic expert advisory group Gabriel Leung Cheuk-wai, Yuen Kwok-yung and David Hui Shu-cheong.

Chan has expressed her gratitude to the mainland delegation for sharing their experience on the pandemic fight.

"I am very grateful for Professor Liang and his delegation's visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to provide advice on our anti-epidemic work,” Chan said.

She said Tuesday’s meetings were thorough and constructive and that the mainland team had given constructive suggestions such as how to further enhance social distancing measures and make better use of medical resources.

Liang led four mainland experts to arrive in Hong Kong on Monday. Mainland epidemiological experts who arrived in Hong Kong earlier will join Liang’s team to continue their visit in Hong Kong.
