Shenzhen will build the world’s largest Legoland holiday resort in the city’s eastern Dapeng New Area, with total investment expected to reach 4.7 billion yuan ($723 million), according to local media reports.

According to an announcement by the Shenzhen Exchange Group, the land for the holiday resort will open for bidding on Aug 23. Covering an area of over 533,000 square meters, it will consist of a Legoland theme park, a Legoland water park, and three Lego theme hotels that will provide more than 1,100 rooms.
The mega project is expected to be completed in four years. It will be the third Legoland holiday resort in the country, following the one in southwestern Sichuan province, scheduled to be completed in 2023 and the one in Shanghai, scheduled to start construction this year and come into service in early 2024.
The number of visitors to the Shenzhen holiday resort should reach two million in the first year of operation and the annual figure could double within five years of opening, according to the announcement.
