BEIJING - A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Wednesday rebuked certain European countries for their unreasonable actions in summoning Chinese ambassadors after China announced sanctions against 10 individuals and four entities within the European Union (EU).
Prior to the Chinese sanctions, the EU had unilaterally sanctioned Chinese individuals and entities under the pretext of so-called human rights issues in Xinjiang, which was based on nothing but lies and false information, spokesperson Hua Chunying told a press briefing.
The EU acted first with an unreasonable provocation, and China simply responded in a legitimate and just manner, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said
The EU acted first with an unreasonable provocation, and China simply responded in a legitimate and just manner, she said.
"The EU only allows itself to wantonly smear and attack others and impose sanctions based on false information, but it does not allow China to talk back or fight back," Hua said. "This is, in itself, a manifestation of double standards, bullying and hypocrisy."
Noting that China does not provoke trouble but will never flinch when trouble comes its way, Hua said the country does not accept the unreasonable move of some European countries in summoning Chinese ambassadors.
"The Chinese envoys have all expressed China's solemn position and made solemn representations to the European side," she added.
Indian Media
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in India expressed its strong dissatisfaction with the Indian media on its wrong comments on Xinjiang-related issues and elaborated on China's principle and position, a spokesperson said in a statement.
The wrong comments, written by a member of the National Security Advisory Board of India in an article and published by Indian media, spread lies about China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, in an attempt to sow discords among ethnic groups in China and drive a wedge between China and Islamic countries, the spokesperson said.

Xinjiang-related issues are purely China's internal affairs, the spokesperson said. "We are firm in upholding our national sovereignty, security and development interests," the Chinese embassy official added.
The spokesperson urged relevant media and people in India to "think independently, have a sober understanding of a few Western countries' behaviors to interfere in other countries' internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, earnestly respect China's core interests and major concerns, take an objective view of Xinjiang's economic and social development achievements, and stop spreading disinformation."
"The door to Xinjiang is always open," the spokesperson said, adding that "seeing is believing, and justice resides in people's hearts."
The spokesperson noted that as more than 1,200 foreign diplomats, international organization officials, journalists and religious personnel from over 100 countries and regions have visited Xinjiang in recent years, they agreed that what they saw and experienced in the region were entirely different from Western media' reports and some politicians' accusations.
French author Maxime Vivas wrote a book titled "Uygurs, to put an end to fake news" after his two trips there and told the real story about Xinjiang that enjoys prosperity and stability for its people.

"We recommended the visionaries in India read this book," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also stressed that in essence Xinjiang-related issues are about countering-terrorism, de-radicalization and anti-separatism.
The East Turkistan terrorist forces have long been engaged in activities endangering China's national security in an attempt to separate Xinjiang from China, the spokesperson said.
It's astonishing and unbelievable that this Indian media organization openly published a picture with the flag of the East Turkistan terrorist forces, which emboldened terrorism and separatism, according to the spokesperson.
