Ecuador midfielder Cazares tests positive for COVID-19

RIO DE JANEIRO - Atletico Mineiro and Ecuador international midfielder Juan Cazares has tested positive for COVID-19, the Brazilian club said on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was the only player to be diagnosed with the virus following a series of tests on Atletico's players and staff over the weekend.

"He (Cazares) is asymptomatic but has been isolated and will be removed from all physical activities. He is now under the care of the medical department," Atletico said in a statement on Sunday.

Cazares, who has been capped 21 times for Ecuador's national team, has made 205 first-team appearances for Atletico Mineiro since joining the Belo Horizonte club from Argentina's Banfield in 2016.

Brazilian football has been suspended since mid-March and only some states have allowed clubs to return to training under strict health protocols.
