AMMAN – The death toll from a terrorist attack targeting a church in Jordan's southern Karak governorate rose to nine on Saturday, after two injured victims died of their wounds, as King Abdullah II vowed a firm response to the incident.

The two people in critical condition succumbed to their injuries at Prince Ali Military Hospital, Jordan Public Security Directorate said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Jordan's King Abdullah II chaired a National Security Council meeting, during which he condemned the attack, saying there would be no leniency when it comes to the lives of Jordanians.

He underscored that the security and safety of Jordanians are a red line, vowing justice would reach every terrorist.

Seven people were killed and 34 others injured in a shooting attack during a funeral in Karak, the directorate said Friday.

A spokesperson for the directorate said the criminal act was carried out by unidentified individuals, noting that investigations were underway.
