Hong Kong wushu athlete Lau Chi-lung secured a silver medal at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday with 19.456 points in the men’s Nanquan and Nangun events – the second medal won by the SAR delegation in the wushu competition.
Lau, 26, returned to the same event after finishing 11th in his Asian Games debut in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, in 2023. He first scored 9.73 points in the Nanquan event to place third before adding 9.726 points in the subsequent Nangun competition.
The performance gave Lau a total of 19.456 points, earning him a silver medal, finishing just 0.107 points behind the Chinese national team’s Li Jianming who took the gold.
Lau will receive HK$500,000 ($63743.75) from the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme.
About 580 HKSAR athletes are competing in the 38 events at the 2026 Asian Games, which runs from Sept 19 to Oct 4. The team’s medal tally has reached 10 so far – two golds, four silvers and four bronzes.
