
Hong Kong’s external trade continued to expand as the volume of its merchandise exports surged 31.6 percent year-on-year in July, official data showed on Thursday.
The special administrative region also recorded a 23.6 percent increase in the volume of total imports of goods during the same period, according to data from the Census and Statistics Department.
Comparing the first seven months of 2026 with the same period last year, the volume of Hong Kong's merchandise exports and imports increased by 29.1 percent and 29.3 percent, respectively, the department said.

Comparing the three-month period ending July 2026 with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods rose by 0.9 percent, while imports decreased by 4.7 percent, it added.
Increases were recorded in July in the volume of merchandise exports to Taiwan region (70.3 percent), the United States (64.2 percent), Vietnam (56.4 percent) and the Chinese mainland (34.7 percent). On the other hand, total export volume to India decreased by 7.6 percent.

Comparing July 2026 with the same period last year, the prices of the SAR's total exports of goods and imports of goods increased by 13.7 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively, the department said.
Total export prices to all main destinations increased, including to the mainland (15.4 percent), the United States (14.3 percent), Vietnam (11.7 percent), Taiwan region (11.5 percent) and India (11.0 percent), the department added.
