Military pressure is not the way to solve tensions in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday, dialogue and negotiation is.

Wang made the remarks while meeting with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Beijing.

The continuous tensions in the Middle East and the Gulf region have been severely undermining the security of countries across the region and continuing to disrupt the stability of energy, shipping, and supply chains, Wang stressed.

The sovereignty and security of regional countries should be fully respected, the legitimate concerns of all parties should be properly addressed, and the fundamental principles of international law and basic norms governing international relations must be faithfully upheld, he said.

Wang expressed China's willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with Qatar and other regional parties, support regional countries in taking their future and destiny into their own hands, restore regional peace and stability as soon as possible, and establish a new, just, and equitable regional security architecture.

China applauds Qatar's longstanding commitment to mediating regional and international hotspot issues and its efforts to resolve disputes and promote peace, he added.

Al Thani said that Qatar appreciates China's objective and impartial position and supports its initiative to promote security in the Middle East.

Qatar is willing to strengthen coordination with China to safeguard global energy routes, restore regional peace and stability at an early date, and explore a security architecture that reflects the autonomy of countries in the region, he said.
