The Education Bureau on Monday reminded eligible Hong Kong students who are interested in taking up subsidized undergraduate programs in the Chinese mainland to send their applications on or before Sep 21.

The bureau said in a statement that those interested in applying for subsidies under the Mainland University Study Subsidy Scheme (MUSSS) for the 2026/27 academic year must submit their applications by post or via the MUSSS Electronic Application Platform (musss.edb.gov.hk) before the deadline.

Eligible students may apply for either a means-tested subsidy (for those who have passed the means test) or a non-means-tested subsidy. The subsidies range from HK$5,900 ($753) to HK$19,400 depending on the student’s financial need and the distance of the mainland institution from Hong Kong.

The bureau said the subsidy, given annually, covers the normal duration of a student’s undergraduate program in one of the 217 designated mainland institutions, including 165 institutions participating in the Scheme for Admission of Hong Kong Students to Mainland Higher Education Institutions for the 2026/27 academic year.

The bureau is expected to notify individual applicants of the results in phases from the first quarter of 2027.
