Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING – Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.59 percent to 3,809.66 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.96 percent lower at 13,448.29 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 2 trillion yuan ($294.6 billion), down from 2.54 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Nuclear power, humanoid robotics, and photovoltaic stocks rallied, while memory chip stocks declined.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.24 percent to close at 3,302.55 points Monday.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.39 percent lower at 1,758.21 points on Monday.
