CNY: Shenzhen, HK expected to see 840,000 daily passenger trips

Daily passenger flows between Shenzhen and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region are expected to hit 840,000 during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday, which starts on Sunday, with the peak travel period forecast for Feb 18 and 19, when single-day trips could exceed 1.05 million.

The cross-boundary flows will be concentrated at crossings in Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, the West Kowloon high-speed rail station and Liantang, with daily passenger trips projected to reach 209,000; 182,000; 157,000; 112,000; and 93,000, respectively, according to Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection.

During the festival period, cargo inspections at Shenzhen Bay Port, Shenzhen Airport, and all seaports in Shenzhen will operate around the clock, while cargo inspections at Liantang and Wenjindu will follow the same hours as passenger processing.

Nationwide, border crossings are expected to handle more than 2.05 million passenger movements per day during the holiday, a 14.1 percent increase from last year, according to the National Immigration Administration.

Daily passenger volumes at Gongbei, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, Hengqin, and Qingmao — major crossings between Zhuhai and the Macao Special Administrative Region — are projected at 308,000; 127,000; 99,000; and 98,000, respectively.
