The Consulate General of Nepal in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Feb 4 hosted the Nepal Promotion Expo 2026, an event aimed at fostering trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between Nepal and the international community, including Hong Kong.
The expo also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-China diplomatic relations, featuring an array of product showcases, networking events, and cultural performances.
Fifteen Nepali exhibitors displayed handicrafts, religious artifacts, fabrics, jewelry, and travel and financial products at the event.
Bindeswar Prasad Lekhak, consul general of Nepal in Hong Kong, said the nation is ready to welcome greater foreign direct investment (FDI), citing opportunities across infrastructure, connectivity, institutional development, policies, and governance.

He underscored the importance of deepening people-to-people ties between Nepal and the Hong Kong SAR to elevate trade and investment cooperation to new heights.
He also reflected on the enduring and growing Nepal-China relations.
Guest of honor Anna Cheung Sze-wai, assistant executive director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, encouraged Nepali businesses and projects to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages as a hub for transit and capital.
Consul Satish Gurung delivered a presentation on Nepal-Hong Kong trade relations, and reforms in Nepal to attract FDI, as well as priority sectors for investment.
Wei Wenxiu, director-general of the Consular Department at the Office of the Commissioner of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong SAR, attended as a special guest, joining other dignitaries in visiting booths and sampling Nepali cuisine.

The consulate also honored two Nepali residents in Hong Kong, Angela Rai and Raj Gurung, who last year successfully summited Qomolangma — known in the West as Mount Everest.
Their certificates of achievement were presented by Consul-General Lekhak, Consul-General of New Zealand Peter Lund, and John Tsang, a four-time Qomolangma mountaineer from Hong Kong.
