MOSCOW - US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff said Saturday that US-Russia-Ukraine trilateral talks will continue next week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), TASS news agency reported.

"On Friday and Saturday, the United States coordinated a trilateral meeting alongside Ukraine and Russia, graciously hosted by the United Arab Emirates. Talks were very constructive, and plans were made to continue conversations next week in Abu Dhabi," Witkoff said in a post on the social platform X.

The meeting, held on Friday and Saturday in the UAE capital, is the first trilateral talks since the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis in February 2022.

Although no concrete agreements or joint statements were announced following the two-day meetings, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the talks as constructive in an X post. The Russian side has not yet officially commented on the outcome of these talks.

A UAE government spokesperson said that the talks included "direct engagement" between the two sides and were conducted in a "constructive and positive atmosphere."

The meetings were attended by US presidential envoys Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Russia's military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov, Kyrylo Budanov, chief of the Ukrainian President's Office, Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, as well as other senior officials from both the Russian and Ukrainian sides.

Zelensky said on social media platform X that the negotiations involved military representatives from Russia, Ukraine and the United States, with a focus on "the possible parameters for ending the war."

"It is important that the conversations were constructive," Zelensky said in a post on social media platform X.

According to Zelensky, the US delegation raised the issue of potential formats for formalizing the parameters for ending the crisis, as well as security conditions required to achieve it.

Zelensky said all sides agreed to report back in their capitals on each aspect of the negotiations and to coordinate further steps with their leaders.

Further meetings will take place, potentially as early as next week if there is "readiness to move forward," Zelensky said, noting that "Ukraine is ready."

"I expect a personal briefing from the delegation upon its return," he added.

The trilateral talks took place amid continued fighting in Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said Russian forces carried out large-scale drone and missile strikes on several regions, including Kyiv, during the period of the talks.

According to earlier statements by the UAE, the meeting was part of diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and explore possible political solutions to the Ukraine crisis.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during a meeting with the heads of the participating delegations on Friday, said that the country supports all efforts and initiatives aimed at reaching a settlement of the Ukraine crisis for the benefit of all parties, and at promoting peace and stability worldwide.
