
Hong Kong saw a total of over 5.4 million cross-border trips during the New Year holidays, according to the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.
Immigration data showed on Monday that the city’s land, sea, and air control points recorded 5,412,003 trips during the New Year holiday period from Dec 31 to Jan 4.
The control points were busiest on New Year’s Day, when they logged 1,180,292 trips, including 664,338 arrivals and 515,954 departures.
Lo Wu control point handled 126,686 arrivals and 106,992 departures on Jan 1 while Lok Ma Chau Spur Line had 115,455 arrivals and 84,308 departures.
Immigration data also showed that a total of 741,652 arrivals were made by visitors from the Chinese mainland during the five-day period, which is higher than the 502,237 recorded over the same period during the 2025 New Year celebrations.

The Immigration Department had estimated that Hong Kong's checkpoints would handle a total of about 11.52 million cross-border trips during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday periods.
