
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that 13 people have died and 98 have been injured in a train derailment in the southern state of Oaxaca.
Five of those injured are in serious condition, she said in a post on X.

Mexico’s Interior Minister, Rosa Icela Rodriguez Velazquez, will coordinate response efforts, according to Sheinbaum. She added that updates would continue to be provided.
In an earlier statement, Mexico’s Navy Ministry said the Interoceanic Train was carrying 241 passengers and nine crew members when the main locomotive derailed. The accident occurred near the town of Nizanda, the statement said.
