European movie lovers had a taste of a diverse range of Hong Kong films, from classic to contemporary, as the "Hong Kong Making Waves – Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema" touring program visited Lisbon and Paris.
Presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, the event highlighted a selection of 10 films showcasing the latest developments in Hong Kong's film industry.
From Sept 25 to 28 in Lisbon and Oct 3 to 5 in Paris, audiences were treated to an array of genres, including documentary, comedy, drama, and action. Featured films such as Papa, All Shall be Well, and Shanghai Blues highlighted the storytelling and cinematic achievements that Hong Kong has to offer.
Shirley Yung, special representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, said: "Hong Kong hosts one of the largest and most dynamic film industries in the world, and the government is committed to supporting our film industry and facilitating international exchanges and collaboration.”
The "Making Waves – Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema" program, first launched in 2022, is a touring film exhibition promoting the diversity of Hong Kong films, from classic to contemporary, especially those by new filmmakers.
The program has already toured to 15 cities worldwide, highlighting the creations of Hong Kong filmmakers whose works transformed film aesthetics and brought awareness about socio-political issues.
