MACAO - World No 1 Sun Yingsha secured a place in the women's singles quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao 2025 after beating Bernadette Szocs of Romania 3-1 here on Friday.

"Szocs has a certain level of strength among European players, but today I was well-prepared for the challenges and focused more on my own game," Sun said after the match. She will face Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz on Saturday, with both expressing anticipation for the match.

Sun's teammate Wang Manyu overcame a 1-2 deficit to knock out Japan's Hina Hayata 3-2. Wang shared in the mixed zone that Hayata's forehand aggression and accuracy were impressive. "In the latter half of the match, I made some adjustments during my service rounds and slowed myself down mentally," she said.

In an all-Japan clash, Satsuki Odo upset Miwa Harimoto 3-1 to secure her place in the quarterfinals, setting up a clash against China's young star Kuai Man, who defeated Japan's Mima Ito 3-1.

In men's singles, Lin Shidong of China swept Oh Jun-sung of South Korea 3-0 and will face Anders Lind of Denmark, who defeated Chen Yuanyu of China 3-1. Hugo Calderano of Brazil eliminated Germany's Qiu Dang 3-1.
