BEIJING - A Chinese defense spokesperson said on Wednesday that Japan's rapid military buildup, including the development of offensive weapons and equipment, has raised vigilance and concerns among people worldwide.

Jiang Bin, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a media query regarding the record defense budget request recently submitted by the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

Jiang said that 80 years ago, the aggressive war initiated by Japanese militarists had caused immense suffering across Asian nations. "Today, the resolve of regional countries to defend peace is stronger than ever, and we will not allow Japanese militarism to make a comeback," he said.

The spokesperson urged Japan to reflect on its history of aggression and earnestly respect the security concerns of both its Asian neighbors and the international community as a whole.
