BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.45 percent to 3,825.76 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.07 percent higher at 12,166.06 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.55 trillion yuan (about $357.53 billion) -- up from 2.42 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to semiconductors and securities trading firms led the gains, while stocks related to steel and banks suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, increased 3.36 percent to close at 2,682.55 points.
