Death toll from bridge collapse rises to 15 in western India

NEW DELHI - The death toll in Wednesday's bridge collapse in India's western state of Gujarat rose to 15 on Thursday, even as relief and rescue works continued overnight, confirmed a local official.

He said that at least three people were still missing. Nine people were rescued from the spot of the incident and admitted to a local hospital.

A portion of the four-decade-old Gambhira bridge had collapsed in Gujarat's Vadodara district, resulting in several vehicles plying on it falling into the Mahisagar river.

The bridge connected Vadodara with the neighboring city of Anand. Vehicular movement was adversely affected in the area following the incident.
