Drone soccer, e-dodgeball, and immersive triathlon simulation games will be among the highlights of the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo, a seven-day event kicking off on July 16 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

The expo aims to build excitement for the 15th National Games which will be co-hosted by Hong Kong later this year.

The Hong Kong team will send six athletes to compete in the triathlon at this year's National Games. One of the key attractions of the expo will be an interactive experience hosted by the Triathlon Association of Hong Kong China, allowing the public to virtually compete in a swim-run event through an electronic game format.

The association will also showcase the latest sports gear and training programs during the exhibition.

This year’s National Games will also include aeromodeling as a mass participation event for the first time, with drone football as one of the featured disciplines.

Andy Yeung King-sheung, chairman of the DNT FPV Drone Association Hong Kong, said that that drone technology in the city has evolved beyond just aerial photography and is now being used for entertainment and competitive sports.

In support of the games and to promote sports for all, the expo will also set up an exhibition zone where visitors can take photos with the mascots Xiyangyang and Lerongrong, learn about the competitions to be held in the city, and find out aboutmass participation events.

The Hong Kong Sports Institute will set up a large “cheering net” at the venue, allowing expo visitors to leave encouraging messages to support all athletes competing in the National Games.

Moreover, star athletes such as cyclist Leung Ka-yu, who has previously represented Hong Kong in the Asian Games and National Games, and two-time world champion rope skipper Timothy Ho Chu-ting, will share their inspiring journeys at the event.

The expo, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will run concurrently with the city's annual flagship Hong Kong Book Fair.
