PARIS - The French government has ordered the closure of five Israeli exhibition stands showcasing "offensive weapons" at the 55th Paris Air Show, French daily Le Figaro reported on Monday.
According to the report, the stands belonging to five Israeli arms manufacturers were rendered inaccessible to visitors on the opening day of the event.

French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, who toured the show earlier in the day, said that such weapons "should not have been present."
"France considers the situation in Gaza to be extremely serious from both humanitarian and security perspectives," Bayrou was quoted as saying. "We wanted to make it clear that offensive weapons have no place at this exhibition."

The 55th edition of the Paris Air Show officially opened on Monday and will run until June 22.
Israel continues to strike the Gaza Strip as the Palestinian enclave grapples with worsening humanitarian conditions, marked by large-scale destruction, limited access to aid, as well as severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
