BEIRUT - A Hezbollah member was killed Sunday evening in an Israeli strike targeting a vehicle in southern Lebanon, according to a statement from the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health.

Security sources told Xinhua that the slain Hezbollah member was Mohammad Ali Srour, from the village of Aita al-Shaab, located in the central sector of southern Lebanon. He was on the Debel road in Bint Jbeil district when the strike targeted him.

The airstrike came despite a US- and French-brokered ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel that has been in effect since Nov 27, 2024. The deal ended more than a year of cross-border hostilities triggered by the war in the Gaza Strip.

Nevertheless, the Israeli military continues to carry out occasional strikes inside Lebanon, which it says are aimed at neutralizing "threats" posed by Hezbollah.
