BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.7 percent to 3,363.45 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.24 percent higher at 10,127.2 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.19 trillion yuan (about $165.5 billion), up from 1.01 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to plastic products, printing and packaging, and electronic information led the gains, while those in the sectors of petroleum, paper-making and food were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.37 percent to close at 2,012.55 points Thursday.
