PYONGYANG - Kim Jong-un, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has visited major munitions factories making shells and machinery, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Wednesday.

The shell-making enterprise has upgraded itself through technical innovation, increasing the output of shells to "four times the average yearly level and nearly twice the peak-year level," the KCNA reported.

Kim, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, said that the remarkable growth in productivity is significant for implementing the country's national defense strategy and for raising the combat capability of its armed forces.
