BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.26 percent to 3,104.82 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.9 percent lower at 9,587.12 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 1.03 trillion yuan ($145.16 billion), down from the 1.21 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to home appliances, chemicals and banks led the gains, while those related to automobiles, real estate and gold saw declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.55 percent to close at 1,858.39 points.
