HONG KONG - The volume of Hong Kong’s total goods exports increased by 11.3 percent year-on-year in the first two months of the 2024, according to official data released on Thursday.

The volume of goods imports for January and February also rose 4.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023, data from the Census and Statistics Department showed.

Increases were recorded in February for the total export volume to India (11.9 percent) and the United States (6.6 percent)

The C&SD said it was more appropriate to analyze the figures for January and February taken together in making year-on-year comparisons since the trade flows tend to show greater volatilities in the first two months of a year due to the Lunar New Year.

Prices of goods exports and imports rose 4.7 percent year-on-year during the two-month period, according to the C&SD.

In February, the volume of Hong Kong's total exports of goods and imports of goods decreased by 6.2 percent and 6.8 percent, respectively compared the same period last year.

Comparing the three-month period ending February 2024 with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports increased by 4.5 percent, while the volume of imports of goods remained virtually unchanged.

Increases were recorded in February for the total export volume to India (11.9 percent) and the United States (6.6 percent).

The total export prices also rose during the same period to the Chinese mainland (8.2 percent), India (5.3 percent), Vietnam (4.7 percent), an Taiwan Region (3.9 percent), according to the C&SD.
