HONG KONG – Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu met with newly appointed Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Cui Jianchun on Wednesday and welcomed his assumption of office in the SAR.

Lee said he believes that, under Cui's leadership, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR will continue to support Hong Kong in integrating into the national development and enhancing its advantages as an international city.

Lee expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OCMFA for their support during the enactment of local legislation for Article 23 of the Basic Law, particularly their issuance of timely rebuttals against the smears and attacks by foreign governments and politicians

The chief executive thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OCMFA for their continued support for the SAR government, and for their assistance to Hong Kong residents who need to seek help overseas.

The OCMFA had provided considerable assistance to the SAR government, including in the overseas visits by HKSAR delegations to promote Hong Kong and in pressing ahead for the territory’s early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, Lee said.

He expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OCMFA for their support during the enactment of local legislation for Article 23 of the Basic Law, particularly their issuance of timely rebuttals against the smears and attacks by foreign governments and politicians.

He said the HKSAR government will fully focus on economic development and actively leverage Hong Kong's unique advantages in enjoying the strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world to showcase the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" principle.

The HKSAR government will continue to join hands with leaders and representatives from the industrial, business and professional sectors to organize outbound delegations to actively explore business opportunities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Middle East, and other promising markets, Lee added.
