1 killed, 9 missing in landslide in Indonesia's West Java

JAKARTA - One was killed and nine others, including children, went missing after a landslide struck a village in the Indonesian province of West Java on Sunday, a local official said Monday.

The disaster took place in Cibenda village in West Bandung regency on Sunday after torrential rain reportedly poured over the area for around two hours.

About 400 villagers, according to him, had to flee to temporary shelters as dozens of houses were destroyed

Acting Regent of West Bandung Arsan Latif said that nine villagers were feared to have been buried alive. Rescuers, he said, found a woman killed in the landslide early Monday.

Disasters like floods and landslides often occur in Indonesia during the rainy season.
