AMMAN - Five drug smugglers were killed, and 15 others were captured by Jordanian border forces on Saturday while trespassing from Syria, Jordan's state-run Petra News Agency reported.
They were killed in an operation led by the Jordanian military's border guard units in coordination with security agencies and the anti-narcotics department, it reported, citing an army source.

As many as 627,000 Captagon pills, 3439 kgs of hashish, and a Kalashnikov firearm were seized in the operation.

Eventually, the border guards managed to expel remnants of a large number of drug and weapons smugglers out into Syria without injuries among the military, according to Petra.

Armed drug smugglers in neighboring Syria have taken advantage of dense fog and rugged terrain to increase activities in the border regions, it noted.
The source added that the Jordanian army is committed to dealing with any threat on the border fronts with strength and decisiveness.
