Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po celebrates 75th anniversary

HONG KONG - Wen Wei Po, a Hong Kong-based Chinese language newspaper, on Wednesday held its 75th-anniversary celebration ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said the newspaper, staying true to its original aspiration of loving the country and Hong Kong SAR, not only has promoted information exchange between the SAR and the Chinese mainland, but also actively organized overseas Chinese-language media to enhance their discourse power.

Zheng Yanxiong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, recognized Wen Wei Po's efforts over the past 75 years to keep pace with the times and share the future with Hong Kong and the motherland.

In recent years, the newspaper has gathered public support for safeguarding national security and Hong Kong's stability, playing a positive role in promoting Hong Kong's transition from chaos to governance and towards a new stage of prosperity, Zheng said.

Pan Yundong, acting commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, attended the ceremony.

The newspaper was established in Hong Kong on Sept 9, 1948.
