In the run-up to the eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday break set for Sept 29 to Oct 6, overall tourism bookings to Shenzhen have recorded a staggering 535 percent year-on-year increase, according to online travel agency Ctrip.
More than half the bookings were for inter-provincial travel, indicating a significant rebound in cross-regional tourism. The top five source cities for tourists are Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Dongguan in Guangdong province, as well as Chengdu in Sichuan province.

Shenzhen residents also demonstrated a strong desire to travel during the “supper golden holiday,” which is one day longer than the regular National Day golden holiday. Outbound trips surged by 321 percent over the previous month. Thailand is likely to become one of the top international destinations as it implemented a visa-free policy for Chinese visitors last week.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region also launched an array of activities and promotions to attract tourists and stimulate consumption, including the return of the National Day fireworks display after a five-year gap, half-price theater tickets, and free rides on public transport.
